Istanbul — Bridging the gap between the ab-initio training environment and the commercial flight deck requires instructors who can teach multi-crew concepts from day one.
We are exceptionally proud to announce that the dedicated instructor team at the Turkish Airlines Flight Academy (TAFA) has successfully completed Empower.aero’s core Multi-Crew Pilot License Instructor (MPLI) Train-the-Trainer course. As the primary pipeline for future Turkish Airlines aviators, TAFA's commitment to cutting-edge instruction guarantees that their cadets are molded into highly resilient, line-ready first officers.
Accelerating the Journey to the Right Seat
The Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL) is structurally distinct from traditional training pathways. It demands an early, rigorous focus on Threat and Error Management (TEM) and multi-crew coordination long before the cadet enters the airline environment. To achieve this, the academy instructors themselves must master advanced facilitation and observation skills.
During this comprehensive program, built upon our world-leading competency architecture, TAFA instructors refined their ability to:
- Integrate Seamless TEM: Embedding Threat and Error Management into every phase of cadet assessment and debriefing.
- Facilitate Self-Discovery: Transitioning from traditional "telling" instruction to guiding cadets to self-diagnose and correct their own errors.
- Align with Airline Standards: Utilising the exact same competency language and grading frameworks employed by the mainline Turkish Airlines fleet.
By harmonizing the ATO grading language with the airline's operational expectations, TAFA eliminates the friction that traditionally occurs when a cadet transitions from the flight school to their initial type rating.
"A truly effective MPL pathway ensures that the day a cadet steps into the airline simulator, they already speak the exact same competency language as their Line Training Captains. TAFA is leading the charge in this seamless integration."
It was a privilege to work with such an engaged, forward-thinking team of aviation educators. We look forward to seeing the profound impact these empowered instructors will have on the next generation of Turkish Airlines pilots.
